Do as directed

1. Rewrite the following scentences using the verbs given in their correct tense forms:

1)This road_from Puri to Sambalpur.(run)
2)When we arrived they_lunch.(has)
3)We_each other for the past ten years.(know)
4)I_letters since ten '0' clock this morning.(write)
5)I cannot play the match as i_ my foot.(injure)
Answer
1) This road runs from Puri to Sambalpur. (simple present tense - true forever)
2) When we arrived they were having lunch.(past continuous - action was going on at particular time in past.)
3) We have known each other for the past ten years. (present perfect tense - action occurred in the past and effect continued to present. )
4) I have been writing letters since ten '0' clock this morning.(present perfect continuous tense - action going on at present for a long time. )
5) I cannot play the match as I have injured my foot.(present perfect - recently occurred action)


2.Do as directed:

1)People almost everywhere study English.(change into passive)
Ans: English is studied almost everywhere.
2)You (needn't/mustn't/won't)light a match,the room is full of gas.(choose  
the correct alternative)
Ans: You mustn't light a match,the room is full of gas.
3)He had hardly finished eating when somebody knocked on the door.(begin  
the scentence with 'Hardly')
Ans: Hardly had he finished eating when somebody knocked on the door.
4)The work should be complete _ next month.(supply the missing preposition)

Ans : The work should be complete by next month.

3. Rewrite the following scentences correctly:

1)He has been working on this project since two days.
2)This is a comfortable house to live.
3)Though he is fat, still he runs fast.
4)He did not know why was he going to that place.
5)If he will arrive early, we will watch the movie together.

Answer

1)He has been working on this project for two days. (for - used to indicate time duration)
2)This is the comfortable house to live.( the - certain house)
3)Though he is fat, he runs fast.( still not used with though)
4)He did not know why he was going to that place. (in Assertive sentence helping verb and verb should be written after subject)
5)If he arrives early, we will watch the movie together. (in conditional clause simple present tense is used with if/unless.)
