SOP : Statement of Purpose

A statement of Purpose (SOP) is an essay type application made to a university to seek admission to a particular course. 

Format of the 'SOP'

1. Begin with introduction 
2. Reason for joining the course/ interest
3. Your Qualities, hobbies extracurricular activities 
4. Experience/internship/ project  
5. Advantages of course to you in respect of career 
6. Make your SOP unique. Show how you are different. 

Sample 1 

Read the personal details given below and prepare a suitable Statement of Purpose.

(i) University of Bath, UK is one of the leading Universities for Business Studies. You belong to a business family - wish to start your own business carry forward your family business in future. In your junior college you have opted for commerce, scored well in your Std X Board Examination you made profit in the stall you had put up in the business fair organized by your school/college. Your hobbies are playing cricket/hockey, you get along well with people.


SOP


Running a business is my childhood dream. Business is not a child's play. But I was different in my teenage. Listening business stories from my father, a businessman, the seed of business was planted in my mind. Ours is a business family. Those stories fascinated e vey much. I am eager to exploit my hunger for the course of B School. 
    I wish to start my own business and carry forward my family business in future. The skills I  need to polish are provided in your prestigious University of Bath UK. Learning through your university I will acquire all the necessary skills. I am very much interested in practicing the skills I learn. I would like to run and expand the business to provide employment as well as grow GDP.  
    After scoring well in the Std X Board I opted for commerce stream to meet my dream of businessman. During my Jr. College sojourn I made a handsome profit in the stall I had put up in the business fair organised  by my college. My school had organised a visit to business houses. We met owners and managers who explained us the working of business and its importance in the development of our nation. This visit gave me new insight towards business. 
    I was a captain of my college cricket team. Being a captain I developed a leadership quality which will be fruitful for me to run a business. The team work, zeal and expertise displayed was a learning point.  
    I believe University Of Bath, UK is the ideal location for me to study Business. It is known for the best faculties and campus visited by business tycoons. I hope to secure admission that will provide me with the opportunities  to fulfil my cherished dream.
